Leighton lady done

(But still without a name.)

Whilst Greyman and our dear landlord fixed the plumbing in the laundry room, i did my usual “gotta get it done” thing, and switched the tubage on to a really bad “natural disaster/supernatural” Cheesy B movie. Last night’s offering was “Ba’al: The Storm God”, perfect for chortling at and letting the Inner Needle take over.

The Inner Needle always knows what it takes and why, so she did end up with a Corona of sorts, a repeat of snowflakey stars, or star flakey snow thingees, which i quite like. The indigo dyed silk thread makes it luminescent enough to be illustrative, but not overpowering. Being as the Milky Way is represented in that shibori-ed swath, and she’s in the mountains, the interpretation works with the sky area.

I’ll be re-photographing her this afternoon, as the light between 1 and 3 is perfect to show off true colours and texture.

For a little break now, i’m working on two more small moon pieces, then must get back to the big moon, also untitled! Normally i have a naming choice from three or four phrases that pop into my head while working on something, but not this time. My thesaurus is well thumbed, but nothing’s popping yet. The deadline is July 30th, so hopefully inspiration will come! I’m not a big fan of “Untitled #1/#2/#3 etc” or “Moon #1/#2etc”.

dragging my feet

Fortunately, *she* doesn’t have any, or they’d be dragging too….

I do love the “crackle” stitch approach for the indigo areas, and relatively fast they are, but they aren’t, too ;( !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least the roots work up fastly! I’m thinking she may be ready to attach to her background by the weekend. Of course, that means i now have to start auditioning fabrics for behind her–and am getting the feeling i may have to either indigo up some cotton, or go in a slightly different feel. She has to be integrated: she rises from Nature, but she also has to stand “out”, alone.

I’ll have to start mixing strands of thread together for the roots—-my variegated browns in thickness and colourways are all too different from each other!

I have started the fifth moon in the series as well, but here is the 4th one done. Kept it simple simple, but i think the surround needs a *wee* bit more of that wonderful rhubarb root dyed thread.

L moon 4The next few of these are slightly different in configuration–a circle can be a sum of the parts, and the parts can be unique.

small pleasures

I’ve started small pieces for the Leighton Art Centre’s Gallery shop as i think about the changes needed in the exhibit piece.

These are manageable in terms of time–a full day of concentration to execute. Seven inches square when they are mounted on their canvases, i have lots of ideas due to the size and time frame.

And what a lovely little surprise this was:

ABOS in X3 article Alberta Craft Council 2016I picked up a copy of the Alberta Craft Council’s  “Alberta Craft” magazine and was pleased to see a detail of “A Birth of Silence” used in the article about the X3 Exhibit.

I’ve noticed that since i moved here from the old space, my stats are WAY WAY WAY down, abysmally so………….. This is disheartening in one respect, but then, i mostly talk to myself anyways, so wth, i’m just going to keep going. FaceBook i think has taken over for most people, though i still love a good blog.

it’s about time

Soon the old blog will run out of space for photos, so here’s the first real post of 2016 here on “albedo 2.0”. Long time readers of the original albedo will know i don’t believe that magic happens just because of the flip of a calendar page, but perhaps fresh starts will do the job.

Ironically, though both of these were finished since the beginning of this new year (2016), neither was just created for this date:) I don’t work that fast! “Love Letter” was started in October 2012, “Alien Twitter” in  June 2012.

I’m cleaning out the piles of UFO’s and cannabalizing, shedding and ridding of old work, so why not this start to a new year??

Stay tuned, darlings.
